When I was 20 years old, I used to tell people I’d make my first million by age 40, then I’d quit my job and become an aerobics instructor so I’d be fit in my old age! (Ah . . . the folly of youth!)
Well, I never made that million, but, in addition to being an advertising agency executive for 30+ years, I was an ACE (American Council on Exercise) certified group fitness instructor for 8 years in my 30s. I taught at a fitness club in the Washington DC area for 3 years and at Yarmouth, ME Community Services for 5 years.
Then, through my 40s I focused on my advertising career and family, along with running 5Ks, 10Ks and a half marathon, and being a “regular” at several area gyms, the YMCA in Portland and Biddeford and at several spin classes.
In my 50s, I started to notice that some of the HIIT classes and interval classes moved faster than I could move! Up from the floor, back down on the floor, back up, burpees, up, down . . . . I felt the quality of my workouts was suffering strictly due to the speed of the intervals and the types of exercises I was asked to switch between.
